MemoryMiner 1.1 for Windows Released
March 10th, 2008

GroupSmarts, LLC is pleased to announce the immediate availability of MemoryMiner 1.1 for Windows. The most visible change is a very sophisticated library exchange mechanism. In the File menu, there are two new menu items, namely Import and Export which, let you import and export selected portions of your library. In both cases, the file format (.mlz) is a single file (which is actually a zip file) containing the database, all the photo files, all the thumbnails, and any attachments. Because it’s a single file, it’s easy to transfer (by attaching to an email message, or using file transfer services such as Pando. This format is of course compatible with the Mac version of MemoryMiner, and so is a great way to share work among family and friends.

When exporting, you can optionally scale the photos, which means the resulting library file can be made much smaller than if you included the full size image. When importing you can intelligently merge the contents of one library with another, with full control of handling duplicate people and places.

You can see how the import/export mechanism works in these two screen movies (Quicktime required):

MemoryMiner 1.2 Released
November 10th, 2006

San Francisco, CA 10th November, 2006: MemoryMiner 1.2, a free upgrade to the award winning application was released today. Version 1.2 sports a number of new features, useful enhancements, and bug fixes.

Some of the new features include:

* Google Maps Integration: Google Maps has been integrated into the Places editor, complete with zoomable satellite imagery. It is now possible to manually adjust a location’s latitude and longitude by moving a marker. This is particularly useful for places “in nature” (e.g. Yosemite Park) where a lookup by address wouldn’t really work. This also helps in cases where a lookup by address is not quite accurate. Note that you can pan the map by dragging, and zoom using the scroll wheel on your mouse (if you have one) or by using the zoom slider.

* New MemoryMiner Story Viewer (AKA XML/Web Export) is now based on HTML/Javascript/CSS. Significant improvements have been made to the story viewer. The selection markers on a photo are only visible when the mouse is over the picture then disappear when the mouse is moved. The markers on the map view are filtered based on the person that is selected. Clicking on a photo underneath the map view will zoom the map to the place for that photo. The slideshow has been improved with a nice fade transition between slides, while the photo’s title and caption are displayed over the bottom of the slide. Perhaps most importantly, the look and feel of the web viewer can be modified by adjusting the stylesheets and/or the HTML

* New Spanish Localization MemoryMiner has now been localized into Spanish (joining the Chinese, Danish, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Portuguese localizations).

The upgrade is free of charge to all registered users, and availalble for $45 for new users.
